Witness some of Africa’s most spectacular scenery and wildlife as you canoe down the mighty Zambezi River and take the opportunity to volunteeer with local community development in Lusaka before exploring the mighty Victoria Falls.
Arriving in the Zambia capital of Lusaka we travel south to the stunning Zambezi River and surrounding national park. The Zambezi is Africa’s fourth largest river system and runs through six countries on its journey from central Africa to the Indian Ocean and its power carved out the spectacular Victoria Falls and the zigzagging Batoka Gorge.
Here the adventure really begins as we spend our days in the canoe downstream and our nights camped out on the banks of the river beneath a blanket of stars. This is an absolutely splendid way to appreciate the wonders of Zambia’s newest national park and the chance to see a host of wildlife up close.

Itinerary
Day 1:
Overnight flight from London to Lusaka.
Day 2:
Morning arrival into Lusaka. A 3 hour journey by coach, and then a final 40 minutes by jeep through bushland, brings you to the Lower Zambezi Camp. Over dinner round the campfire, receive your safety briefing for the days to come!
Days 3 - 7:
Spend 3 full days on the river! In general the pattern will be to canoe for an hour or so before breakfast (prime time for spotting game!) and to rest for a couple of hours in the heat of the day around lunchtime. Luggage will be carried separately by jeep (which also supplies emergency back up, radio contact etc) and camps will be set up each night close to the river bank, or on islands in the river. The canoe safari itself is a great opportunity to spot game – elephants and hippos are plentiful, and it is also likely you will spot impala, kudu, waterbuck, warthog, crocodile and buffalo. Occasionally big cats, such as cheetah and lion are seen or, more frequently, heard!

Return by bus to Lusaka and visit the project this afternoon. Spend the following two days working on a project in the Lusaka area. Accommodation in Lusaka is lovely, with en-suite chalets on a small game reserve.

This evening enjoy a farewell dinner at a traditional African restaurant, complete with local dancing! Accommodation in Livingstone is in high-standard permanent tents, with beds and electricity.
