The Race for Life - Bryony Carr

I was born in Canterbury, Kent in 1978. I grew up and was educated in Bristol, where I still live. I graduated from the University of the West of England in 2003 in Biomedical Sciences. After suffering from an undetected illness I was diagnosed with a childhood brain tumour at the age of 17 and have had surgery followed by radiotherapy, chemotherapy and an autologous stem-cell transplant.

Since then an important part of my life has been involved in helping charities that either support cancer research or  assist other cancer sufferers. All the help and support that I have received over the last ten years has been crucial, I cannot thank people enough. Meeting more fellow survivors through the Youth Cancer Trust has been amazing. We all have this special bond between us and we will be great friends forever.

The Race For Life

When times are hard

Try to remember

Things always seem

Worse than they are.

ONce upon a time

I used to believe

Life would be quite simple

Now I know different.

There will always be

A person to judge

A starting line

Someone to beat

A hurdle to cross

A way to run

A race to win

An event to finish

This race I call life.
